As the clock runs the pendulum swings and the two woodsmen on the upper level of the chalet saw away at their log. Once the minute hand reaches the 12 things really get interesting! Firstly the painted cuckoo bird awakens and takes a bow, then proceeds to chirp out the time one coo-coo for each hour of teh day. On each chirp the coiled cathedral gong is also struck by the hammer inside the clock and emits the sound of a church bell. When the cuckoo has finished his call, the swiss made music box begins to play and the third woodsman raises his axe and proceeds to chop away at his log. The music box palys a delightful rendition of the cuckoo waltz.
When the music ends the chopping woodsman becomes dormant until the next performance. The two men with the long saw continue working in time with the ticking of the clock.On each half-hour the bird opens his door, utters a single coo-coo and the gong sounds once. This is a spectacular clock in action and a source of wonder to all who see it. Conditionas can be seen from the illustrations, this clock is in very good condition. The paintwork is bright adn the woodwork in good order. The face, hands and case are all in great shape. The bellows are fine and produce a bright clear chirp of the cuckoo bird. The clockwork mechanism has also been serviced, oiled and adjusted, and is running very well. Overall a visually stunning timepiece in the classic german chalet style.
